David R. Silverthorn, age 82, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Wilson, NC in the comforts of his home. He was born on July 19, 1943, in Pitt County, NC, and lived a life marked by devotion, service, humor, and love for his family and friends.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era from 1964 ~ 1969 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in San Diego, California, where he worked as a main aircraft lineman. His service reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment, and he was honored for his military service with the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

After his military service, David remained a man who valued connection and community. He was a loyal member of the Wilson Moose Lodge from 2005 until his passing, and he cherished the friendships and fellowship he found. He assigned specific nicknames to those around him, that was his way of showing affection. He enjoyed socializing and was always ready to lend a hand, whether he was helping with a gathering, cooking for an occasion, or assisting with whatever needed to be done. His presence brought energy  and warmth to the many events he shared with his Moose Lodge family, and he appreciated the dependable and caring way he showed up for others.

David was known for his creativity, his loving nature, and his friendly spirit. He had a humor all to his own, and whether others understood his jokes right away or not, his personality left a lasting impression. He brought laughter into everyday moments and had a way of making people feel welcome.

Above all else, David loved his wife, Terry Silverthorn, who was the apple of his eye. Their life together was filled with affection and devotion, and he greeted her each morning with a special song, “Goodmorning BooBoo,” a tender routine that reflected the sweetness of their bond. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Terry Silverthorn; his sister, Debbie Godwin; and his three stepchildren, Wayne Strickland and wife Jaime Strickland, Micheal Strickland and wife Delores Strickland, and Tracy Strickland. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Lindsey Simmons, Adam Strickland, Cassie Floars, Haley Floars, Angel Strickland, Ryan Strickland, Michael Strickland Jr., and Justin Strickland; three great-grandchildren, Paisley Simmons, Conner Capps, and Asher Johnson; and one adopted son, Lester Wayne Mayan, of Georgia.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred Silverthorn, as well as his sister, Verona Godwin, and his nephew, Eddie Godwin. Their memories remained part of his life, and he carried his family history with him in a way that reflected the importance he placed on kinship and belonging.
