Murphy Dale Ranson II

Mr. Murphy Dale Ranson II, 82 of Durham, NC passed away peacefully at Long Leaf Medical Center in Wilson, NC on Friday, August 6, 2021. Murphy was born in Durham, NC June 21, 1939, son of the late Murphy Dale Ranson I and Etta McDaniels Ranson.

Murphy served his country honorably in the US Navy. He was a diehard Tarheel Fan and enjoyed all sports. A gift he got from his father, who was a track and field coach at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC. Murphy loved fast cars and good food. He enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league for many years.  Prior to his retirement Mr. Ranson worked in the automotive industry and had his own dealership for many years. Murphy loved his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Betty of the home; daughters, Crystal Ziegler of Graham, NC, Barbie Smith and her fiancé Timmy McCowan of Durham, NC and Angel Watson, and husband Mike of Timberlake, NC; grandchildren, Chase Ranson, Amber Stovall and husband, Jordan, Cody Smith and his fiancé Gabriela Menendez, Robert Zieglar, Jezka Ziegler and Savannah McCowan; great grandchildren, Hiroshi Menendez and Raiden Smith. Also surviving are many extended family and friends.

At the request of the family services are private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the National Processing Center Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
