Obituary

Theresa L. Swain, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at home in Wilson, NC, on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Born on August 13, 1959, in Wilson, NC, Theresa was a pillar of her community, known for her creativity, love, and passion.

Theresa graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a degree in business and also from Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute with a degree in graphic design. Her creativity found an outlet in her work, first with the City of Wilson Print Shop, United Way and as manager for Habit for Humanity. She also served as office manager for her church, St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Wilson, NC. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family and community.

She was married for 38 joyful years to her husband, Bruce Swain, of Wilson, NC. Together, they raised three sons, Trevor, Joe, and Roland. Trevor and his wife Maggi, along with their children Rylee and Piper, reside in Wilson, NC. Joe, his wife Kaye, and their children Abigail, Hailey, and Rebecca live in St. Mary, GA. Roland, his wife Amanda, and their children Lily, Layla, and Logan call Kingsland, GA, their home. Theresa was also a loving sister to Kathy Driver and her husband, Homer; Roy Lamm; and Connie Morehead and her husband, Emmitt, all of Wilson, NC. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Marshall and Peggy Lamm.

Theresa’s life was marked by a love for simple pleasures. She enjoyed painting and Art. Her favorite place was the beach, and she was an avid fisher. She relished the times she could out-fish her husband and claim bragging rights. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," and Theresa lived this quote to its fullest, embracing every moment with joy and enthusiasm.

Theresa was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church for over a decade. Her faith was an essential part of her life, providing her with strength and comfort. In return, she provided the same to those around her, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.

In remembering Theresa, we are reminded of her creativity and love for design, her passion for her work, and her unwavering love for her family. She was a beacon of light in her community, bringing joy, laughter, and comfort to all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones and in the community she served so diligently.

A service of Celebration for Theresa will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church with Father Paul Castelli officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church 202 Goldsboro St. Wilson, NC 27893, or Purrfect Cats Rescue P.O. Box 7725 Wilson, NC 27895.
