Ms. Virginia Dare Perry, born on July 31, 1931, in the warm and welcoming town of Wilson, NC, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in the same town that she called home throughout her cherished life. Virginia's journey on earth spanned 93 years, filled with love, wisdom, and thoughtfulness that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Virginia’s early years in Wilson set the stage for a life deeply rooted in community and family. Her career as a Food Secretary for the Wilson County Schools was marked by dedication and service, where she nourished the bodies and minds of countless students with both sustenance and kindness. Her work was not just a job, but a testament to her commitment to the well-being of others, a trait that defined much of Virginia's life.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Virginia's passions painted a picture of a woman who found joy in life's simple pleasures. Her love for the beach and lighthouses spoke of a soul that found peace in the rhythmic ebb and flow of the ocean and the guiding light that stands steadfast against the night. The music of Elvis Presley moved her, as she swayed to the tunes that defined an era. Virginia’s culinary delights, coupled with her infamous sweet tooth, were a source of joy.
Above all, Virginia's heart belonged to her family. She is survived by her devoted sons, John Perry of Kenly, NC, and Robert Perry of Wilson, NC. Her daughter, Sue Kamp of North Muskegon, MI, and sister,Doe Taylor of Raleigh, NC, remember her fondly, as do her brothers, Jerome Taylor of Rocky Mount, NC, and Ray Taylor of Raleigh, NC. Virginia's legacy continues through her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. The many nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her will carry forward her teachings and affection.
Those who knew Virginia best would describe her as loving, wise, and thoughtful.
As we bid farewell to Ms. Virginia Dare Perry, we celebrate a life lived with intention and grace. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told and the love shared among those who were privileged to walk alongside her on this earthly journey.
In the quiet corners of Wilson, NC, where Virginia's story began and ended, there is solace in knowing that she has left an indelible imprint on the community she loved so dearly.
A service of celebration will be held at the convenience of the family.
